For at least six years, a motorbike tire had been impaled on the neck of a wild crocodile, but it has now been freed. After weeks of work and earlier unsuccessful attempts, 35-year-old Iɴᴅᴏɴᴇsɪᴀn bird watcher Tili managed to liberate the 14.8-foot saltwater crocodile from the tire.
The residents of Palu, on the Iɴᴅᴏɴᴇsɪᴀn island of Sulᴀᴡᴇsi, have become accustomed to the female crocodile. Even the international media became aware of the enormous reptile, which led Aᴜsᴛʀᴀʟɪᴀn “Outback Wrangler” star Matthew Wright to make a failed attempt to release the creature.
Tili first heard about the iconic, tire-wearing crocodile from his neighbors in January. Tili has just relocated to Palu. He made it clear that he wanted to preserve it. Tili set up a trap along a river with ropes using chickens, ducks, and other birds as bait. Three weeks later, as the crocodile entered the trap, Tili and two pals cut through the tire.
The crocodile was eventually set free six years after it was first discovered with a tire around its neck. The animal was helped to return to its natural habitat by fireғɪɢʜᴛers and a wildlife preservation organization.
It’s still unclear how the crocodile ended up in the tire. Conservationists speculate that it may have been purposefully attached to the animal in a failed attempt to catch it as a pet or for its skin. Another theory is that the crocodile became entangled in the tire while swimming in trash-filled water.
