Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Mohamed Salah is struggling to gel with the likes of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, in comparison to the Egyptian’s previous on-field relationships.
The Reds have looked a shadow of their former selves this season and currently occupy 9th spot on the Premier League table. Also, issues such as midfield shortages and misfiring attackers have been some of the club’s biggest problems in the 2022/23 campaign.
In reflecting on Salah’s progress this season, Klopp mentioned that Salah is ’suffering’ and that the African star was used to playing in a ‘well-drilled’ front three in the last couple of years.
“Of course Mo is suffering,” Klopp said as per the Mirror.
“It was a well-drilled machine the front three, everything was clear what we were doing.
“Everybody suffers from that. That’s clear. It is specific, offensive play that requires a lot of work and lot of information, and not always obvious information.
“You create a feeling about a lot of these things, about where your team-mate is and where to pass the ball without looking. That is not cool but we cannot expect just to be back to our best and win 5-0 and go to the next game. We have to work hard. Nobody wants to hear it but we have to do it.”
