The Legion star has come a long way as an actress and soon would be joining one of the most popular and successful franchises. However, prior to being the successful actor and comedian she is today, Plaza suffered from some serious health issues. The White Lotus star opened up about her health conditions during an interview with The Guardian.
Aubrey Plaza Suffered Major Health Crises
Over the years, Aubrey Plaza has established herself as a successful actor and comedian in Hollywood. While she has always tried to put up the best of herself on-screen, that might not always be the case for the Life After Beth star.
Actress and comedian, Aubrey Plaza
During an interview with The Guardian, Aubrey Plaza opened up about her health issues. The Black Bear star shared that at the age of 20, she suffered from “expressive aphasia,” a communication disorder that causes difficulty in speaking.
Plaza shared that although she was able to understand the situation, she was not able to respond. “Like, you could say something, and I would know what you meant, but I couldn’t express it or even write it,” she shared.

The Criminal Minds star said that she could neither speak nor write. “When they gave me a piece of paper and a pen, I just kept writing lines instead of words,” Aubrey Plaza shared. She also shared that when she first suffered the stroke, she was paralyzed.
However, being “so young” turned out to be lucky for her, as she started recovering soon. Plaza shared that she was a student at New York University at the time and started her internship at Saturday Night Live soon after recovering.
The Reason Aubrey Plaza Joined the Disney+ Show
During her appearance on In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast, Aubrey Plaza talked about getting cast in the upcoming Disney+ show Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The WandaVision spin-off, starring Kathryn Hahn, is expected to release under phase 5 of the MCU.
Plaza shared that she and the Bad Moms star have known each other for years. While they did share some moments on screen in Parks and Recreation, they never got the opportunity to really work together on a project.

“I’ve known [Kathryn Hahn] for years, we’ve never really got—you know, we shared a couple moments on-screen on Parks and Recreation years ago, ten years ago, but I’ve never gotten to work with her, really, and she’s I think she’s one of the most incredible actresses that’s working today.”
So when she was offered to work alongside Hahn, she immediately accepted the offer. Plaza shared that although working with Marvel Studios is “cool,” the real reason she accepted the role was to “go toe to toe” with Kathryn Hahn.
Her role in the series is yet to be disclosed. But Aubrey Plaza’s statement seems to be hinting that her character could come face to face with Hahn’s Agatha in the upcoming series. The official release date of Agatha: Coven of Chaos has not been revealed yet.
