The Manchester United boss has taken the extra step of pinning up three key rules he wants all of his players to abide by onto the dressing room walls this season
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has three clear rules each of his players must follow according to Red Devils midfielder Fred, who has since revealed what they are.
The Brazilian international has explained how he feels that Ten Hag’s principles are crucial to the way United have turned things around this season. The Dutchman got off to a slow start at the helm, but has since transformed the Red Devils into a side that look on course for Champions League qualification.
Ten Hag has also guided United to their first major final since 2021, with a date against Newcastle at Wembley coming up later this month for the Carabao Cup’s showpiece event. Since his arrival, the former Ajax boss has made it clear he will not suffer fools gladly.
Following the humiliating 4-0 defeat by Brentford in August, the United boss made his players run an extra 13km in training the next day – the same distance the Bees outran his players by during the game.
The United boss is also reported to have changed the club’s dress code, meal times and implemented a ban on mobile phones being used in certain parts of the training ground.
More recently, Fred has shed light on the three rules Ten Hag has plastered on the dressing room walls to serve as a reminder for every United star.
Fred has shed light on Erik ten Hag’s dressing room rules at Manchester United
“Don’t be late, don’t do wrong things, always do what you can to help your partner – and that’s important.”
Judging by the upturn in United’s recent fortunes, it would appear that Ten Hag’s method of messaging and management style is clearly having the desired effect on his squad.
Vice-captain Bruno Fernandes also waxed lyrical about his boss after United booked their place in the Carabao Cup final earlier this week.
“I think last year was about confidence,” the Portugal international explained. “You win one game, you lost another one, you draw another one – you never get that run of victories that gave you the confidence to keep going and keep pushing yourself to do the best.
“We had a bad feeling that any moment of the game could go against us – a corner, a shot, some moment. The confidence was low and that creates uncertainty but obviously I think this season the main thing was the results. You get more confident.
“The idea of the manager is on the team, you can see it. The players that came to the club are also making a part of that but the ones that stayed are also playing and making a part of that too.”
Man Utd ‘will look for marquee striker’ at Old Trafford
Manchester United will look to sign a “marquee” striker in the summer window, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT.
Erik ten Hag brought stop-gap Wout Weghorst to Old Trafford in January, but Jacobs believes even if the Dutch international is a success, United will still re-enter the market at the end of the season.
Manchester United transfer news
According to ESPN, ten Hag has drawn up a three-man list of potential summer striker signings.
It comes after United made the surprise January signing of ex-Burnley centre-forward Weghorst, who joined on loan until the end of the campaign.
Weghorst has caught the eye with his performances for United so far, but there are suggestions that even if the 30-year-old shines for the Stretford-based outfit, ten Hag is still keen on bringing in a long-term option.
Amongst those names, the ESPN report claims, is Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane, who recently entered the final 18 months of his contract.
Having missed out on a move to Manchester City in 2021, it’s claimed Kane could look to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in search of silverware.
The England captain, who turns 30 in the summer, is reported to be open to extending his contract with Spurs, but speculation surrounding a move away from north London refuses to go away.
Elsewhere, Napoli marksman Victor Osimhen is another name mooted with an Old Trafford switch, as is Benjamin Sesko, who has already agreed on a £20 million move to RB Leipzig in the summer. What has Ben Jacobs said about United’s search for a striker?
Often a problem area for United in recent years, the Red Devils faithful will be hoping the club fixes its striker woes ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
Speaking about their search for a number-nine, CBS journalist Jacobs told GMS in an interview that United were likely to splash the cash on a goalscorer.
Manchester United will absolutely want a striker,” Jacobs told GMS.
“And even if Wout Weghorst succeeds, and they come back to Burnley and try and agree something for that, I sense that it’s unlikely that they still wouldn’t strengthen in that area and look for some kind of marquee name.”
Who would be the best fit for United?
Three different options, all at varying stages of their career, the standout name is obviously Kane.
The Tottenham striker has netted over 190 goals in the Premier League, with many tipping him to go on and break Alan Shearer’s long-standing record of 260 (Premier League).
Like Kane, Osimhen’s goals record speaks for itself, with the Nigerian international having netted 15 goals in 20 matches for Napoli this season.
Whereas for Sesko, while he might have already been dubbed the “next Erling Haaland“, there is a feeling the Slovenian international may need to experience playing in a big European league, before making the move to one of the continent’s biggest clubs.
