This Hungarian couple wasn’t expecting to come upon two endangered white-tailed eagles trapped together and on the verge of dying while canoeing the Danube River.
The eagles were most likely clutched in this manner after a struggle. Richard Varga and Klaudia Kis realized they had to act.
They kindly assisted the couple out with a rope before continuing their trek from the Black Sea near Romania to the Black Forest in Germany.
Their journey upstream will take them three months in all. According to the BBC, they had known each other for about a year before embarking on their Danube Upstream eco-awareness initiative.
