Anne Hathaway comments on Roe v. Wade in a new interview. Find out what she said!
Anne Hathaway recently sat down with Interview Magazine where she fielded questions from fans and friends.
One of the 20 question came from her Princess Diaries co-star Julie Andrews, who asked the Armageddon Time actress to reveal what “really ticks” her off,” claiming that she’s never seen Hathaway get angry.
Hathaway responded that “currently, what makes me really angry is that I can look at a newspaper and on the front page, see that there are plans in place to overturn Roe v. Wade next to an article about how there’s a baby formula shortage, which has reduced the availability of baby formula by 43 percent.”She continued: “What makes me angry is the people that are cheering for the overturning of Roe v. Wade, will not have a conversation about that point in the future when those two stories intersect. And the people who have been working so hard to overturn Roe v. Wade have done so without making any effort at creating a more fair, just, and equitable society, and affordable, by the way, in which to have children. I’m not someone who likes shaming people, but like I said, I’m angry.”
This is not the first time that Hathaway has been vocal about women’s rights and equality. In 2016, Hathaway was named a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador where she advocated for affordable childcare services and shared parental leave, among other issues.
In 2019, Hathaway also called out Alabama’s anti-abortion law and spoke on “the complicity of the white women who made this awful moment possible.”
Hathaway continues to address the baby formula emergency on Instagram by encouraging people to donate to a company that’s teaming with wholesale retailers to drive down prices.
