Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has raved about new signing Jakub Kiwior, believing he will “redefine” the way they play.
Kiwior joined the Gunners from Italian club Spezia in a deal worth around £21million last month
The transfer looked to come out of nowhere, with the club allegedly entering a gentlemen’s agreement with the player’s camp to keep things under wraps.
The 22-year-old defender looks to be far more in keeping with Mikel Arteta’s business model than the Gunners’ other additions.
The north London side added 28-year-old winger Leandro Trossard from Brighton and 31-year-old midfielder Jorginho last month.
However, Arteta was originally keen to sign 23-year-old Mykhailo Mudryk and 21-year-old Moises Caicedo, frustratingly missing out on both.
Arteta was also eager to add a left-sided centre-back to his weaponry, with Kiwior seen as the perfect competition for Gabriel.
Arteta raves about ‘extaordinary’ Kiwior
Speaking to the club’s official website, the Gunners boss said: “With Jakub, he is a young talent with incredible potential that is going to help redefine our way of playing, and we didn’t have a backup centre-back for the whole season, and with Jorginho, he is a player that speaks for himself.
“When you look at his CV, his playing record, his quality – I think we’ve made some really good decisions there.”
And it’s not just Arteta who likes him. Fellow Poland team mate Robert Lewandowski labelled the player “extraordinary” when he first teamed up with the international squad.
In September last year, Sempre Milan quoted Lewandowski as saying: “I noticed [Kiwior] in the warm-up before the game and wondered who he was.
“Then, I saw him in the game and I realised that he is an extraordinary player. He has enormous potential.”
