Liverpool have named a very affordable asking price for Joel Matip, whose future at Anfield remains unknown at this point.
Joel Matip has been a crucial player to Liverpool in recent weeks, starting most games as Liverpool have been going through an injury crisis – particularly in defence. Throughout his time at Anfield, the centre back has learned to love the club and he’s become a real fan favourite.
However, his long-term future is unclear. Only under contract until next summer and not getting any younger, it might be the right time for Liverpool to sell. After all, given the news on Mohamed Salah potentially being sold earlier, it looks like the Reds are trying to garner as much income as possible to fund their summer transfer window.
According to the latest from Football Insider, Liverpool are willing to accept £15m for Matip in the summer. While he’s been important to Jurgen Klopp throughout his injury crisis, Matip himself is a cause for concern when it comes to injuries, picking up a multitude himself throughout his time in England.

Besides, when Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk are both fit, Matip is surplus to requirements. It’s unfair that a player of his ability is used primarily as a bench warmer. Of course, he’s getting his chance now but only because it’s absolutely necessary.
I must admit, as a Liverpool fan I would be fairly peed off with just £15m. Obviously this is hindered by his injury concerns, age and contract situation but still – Matip is a great player when he’s fit. That said, he’ll be a huge asset to whichever club he joins.
