Thierry Henry has told CBS Sports that he thinks Manchester City’s bench was stronger than what Arsenal had to offer on Wednesday night – as Pep Guardiola’s side secured a priceless 3-1 win over Mikel Arteta’s men at The Emirates.
With only three points separating the two sides going into the match in North London, Kevin De Bruyne gave his side the lead. A mistake from Takehiro Tomiyasu allowed the Belgian to score. But, Bukayo Saka equalised from the spot.
However, City improved in the second half. An improved Jack Grealish made it 2-1, before Erling Haaland netted his first goal in four games to make it 3-1. The win sees City go to the top of the table. Arsenal still have a game in hand.
Following the defeat, Arsenal legend Henry discussed the loss and the two sides. He feels that Manchester City had more quality on the bench than Arsenal – with Gabriel Jesus, Thomas Partey and Emile Smith-Rowe still missing.
“Now, after the defeat, it is going to be very difficult [for Arsenal]. Stay calm. Akanji, Foden came on. Do we have the same bench at Arsenal? I’m not sure. Keep your composure. Losing that doesn’t mean everything has to go in the bin.”
HENRY: MANCHESTER CITY’S BENCH IS STRONGER THAN WHAT ARSENAL HAVE
Arsenal do have a nice run of games coming up. Their next seven are Villa, Leicester, Everton, Bournemouth, Fulham, Palace and Leeds. In Manchester City’s next six games, they come up against Newcastle and Liverpool, among others.
So, there is every chance that the Gunners could get back to the form that saw them sit at the top of the table going into Wednesday’s clash. But, they need to rid themselves quickly of their dip in form – if they are to keep up with City.
