A favourite luxury Sydney ‘crash-pad’ of superstars Elton John and Chris Hemsworth has been sold for a rumoured $30million to an unknown buyer.
The Woollahra mansion was purchased by former Crown Casino boss Rob Rankin and his wife Paula for $6.825million in 2003, with realestate.com.au reporting this week that a ‘deal has been done’ after it was quietly listed over the past few years.
Before the sale, Rankin, who was based in Hong Kong at the time of purchase, rented out the lavish eight-bedroom property to high-end clients attracted to its unique security features.
Built in 1884, the multi-storey house named ‘Woodlands’ is largely hidden from the street by a large wall covered in trees.
Elton John stayed in the home – which covers 1,567sqm – during his Australian tour in 2020.
Actor Chris Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky were renting the Edwardian estate in 2021 while they were living in Sydney.
The glamourous couple live full-time with their three children in an enormous mansion in Broken Head, near Byron Bay, which is said to be worth $30million.
The hunky Hollywood star and his brothers, Liam and Luke, have invested in several multimillion-dollar properties in NSW’s Northern Rivers region.
The property is situated in a post-code only 4.3km from Sydney’s CBD in a precinct famous for its grand homes.
The property was listed off-market, meaning no images of the inside of the mansion are available.
A one-time right-hand to billionaire James Packer, Rankin was the Crown chairman between 2014-2017 and is now a chairman, co-founder and partner of Altero Capital Partners.
Woodlands past owners also include advertising man John Singleton and TV executive Bruce Gyngell.
