Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has reportedly been informed he won’t be picked in Chelsea’s game against Southampton this afternoon.
Chelsea host Southampton today at Stamford Bridge in a really important Premier League fixture for both sides.
The Blues have had little time to prepare for Saturday’s league game after playing out in Germany during Wednesday night’s 1-0 loss against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
However, it’s vital that Graham Potter’s side refocus on the league situation because they sit 10th right now.
As for Southampton, they’re without a full-time manager and rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang overlooked again
According to the Daily Mirror, Aubameyang is one individual that won’t be included in the Chelsea squad later today.
It is understood that the Blues have told the 33-year-old striker he won’t me in the match day squad against Southampton.
This will be the third consecutive Premier League game where he’s been completely overlooked. He missed the midweek game in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund because he’s not been picked in the European squad, either.
Graham Potter said in his pre-match press conference yesterday that Aubameyang “remains an important player” in the Chelsea group.
However, the £160,000-a-week centre-forward appears to have fallen so far down the pecking order.
He’s hardly set the world alight during his debut season at Stamford Bridge, scoring three goals in 17 games across all competitions. It’s remarkable he can’t get a sniff when the team are struggling so much at the top end of the pitch, though.
Kai Havertz continues to get opportunities game after game to lead the line as the striker, but he just doesn’t look like a natural up there.
