Having lost their last three games, PSG were looking to get back to winning ways against Lille at the Parc des Princes. Kylian Mbappe and Neymar helped them take a comfortable 2-0 lead by the 17th minute.
However, as far as cliches goes, Lille showed the French capital side that 2-0 is, indeed, a dangerous lead. By the 69th minutes, Bafode Diakite, Jonathan David, and Jonathan Bamba had inspired a 2-3 comeback.
The French leaders were not going down that easy, though. Mbappe scored his second in the 87th minute before Lionel Messi scored the eventual winner in the 95th minute through a sensational free-kick.
That was one of the only times in the second half where Messi got the ball in a dangerous position in the final third. He won the foul and then converted the free-kick, too.
While his performance was far from enthralling, Leo still proved he could not be written off. And following this entertaining 4-3 win, the Argentine travelled to Barcelona for a break, as reported by Victor Navarro.
Leo has always been clear that the Spanish city is his ‘home’, and that his family plan to move back once his footballing career comes to a close.
This is also the first time Messi has visited Barcelona since winning the World Cup. A public appearance would have undoubtedly attracted thousands of fans, but still tied to PSG, the 35-year-old went about his business privately.
PSG do not have a midweek game, and will only play Olympique Marseille on Sunday, which allows Messi a couple of days of vacation.
However, his schedule will only get more hectic as the season goes on, with a trip to Munich also scheduled for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
