Selena Gomez returned to Instagram on Monday (Jan. 14) to wish everyone a happy new year and reflect on the past few months. The post marks her first Instagram appearance since Sept. 23, when she let fans know she was “taking a social media break.” Shortly after, she reportedly entered a treatment facility for anxiety and depression, though she hasn’t yet spoken publicly about it.
Her Monday message to fans is upbeat and looking forward to 2019.
“It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support,” she writes in the caption, including three black-and-white photos of the singer/actress. “Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth. It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.”
Though she stepped away from social media, Gomez has still been in the public eye thanks to her collaboration with DJ Snake, Cardi B and Ozuna on the global hit song “Taki Taki,” which has so far peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped both the Hot Latin Songs and Latin Airplay charts. She was also photographed snow tubing with friends just before Christmas last month.
