At UFC 285, Jon Jones is set to make his much-anticipated return to the Octagon, where he will compete for the vacant heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane. However, the build-up to the fight has already been marked by psychological warfare, with Gane claiming that he only begins training once his opponent has been announced. Jones, on the other hand, has dismissed Gane’s claims, expressing skepticism about his opponent’s preparation methods. It is worth noting that Jones himself used to adopt a similar training approach earlier in his career.
In a recent tweet, Jon Jones claims that his feud with Daniel Cormier was officially over. In addition, Jones even states that he respects the current UFC commentator as a fighter. Despite this, Jones and Cormier’s rivalry will remain one of the biggest in MMA history. Moreover, he also said that his ‘no contest’ result against Cormier should be overturned.
Fans also weighed in on the matter of Gane’s alleged preparation routine. They are siding with ‘Bones’ as they don’t believe Gane is not training during the entire year. Moreover, the Frenchman who looks fit in the heavyweight division must be working hard.
Fans React to Ciryl Gane’s statement ahead of Jon Jones fight
The MMA community is not easily fooled. They were not willing to accept Gane’s statement. Here’s what they had to say:
A fan said: “100% a ploy by Gane”
One fan also shares similar emotion: “It clearly is a trap lmao”
Another fan hilariously said: “Bro got a whole 6 pack and bouncing on his toes at heavyweight talking bout I’m lazy”
Meanwhile, one fan said: “Exactly and if that was true he needs new management and trainers . Plus fighting professionally at this level is a full time job year round as the competition level is consistently evolving.”
Whilst a fan claims: “If it wasn’t already known, Jones establishes himself as the MMA goat after he wins the HW belt”
Another fan said: “I got Jon whether gane train or not”
A fan claims: “We just have to accept the fact that Jones is what peak of a fighter is and can never be beaten ever”
One fan catches Gane lying: “Yeah Gane capping”
Another fan predicts; “Jones 48-47”
On the contrary, Jones was such a fighter who only trained when he had a fight announced. One of his trainers gave confirmation for this once.
Brandon Gibson reveals how Jones was training
Jon Jones was the youngest UFC champion when he won the UFC light heavyweight title. He was so talented and gifted that ‘Bones’ barely trained before fights. One of the Jones’ coaches from his camp talked about this.
He said, “Jon’s been pretty open about this—he wouldn’t train at all in the offseason, He’d show up to the gym after a couple of months on his couch. Jon used to show up to camp and we’d spend four of the weeks getting into shape.”
“That would leave us with just three weeks of fight-specific training. Then we’d be on the road for fight week. We’d be super crunched for time every fight.” He further added.
Not only this, but Jones even said that he was partying and not taking things seriously as a coping mechanism. Jones was a young prodigy fighting deadly heavyweight fighters. If he lost, he wanted to give that as an excuse. But he never lost. Time will tell if Gane can have the same level of success Jones did with their similar training routines.
