He’s best known for playing superhero Thor on the big screen.
But Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth became a real life hero this week – funding private helicopter trips to flood-ravaged regions in Australia.
The Byron Bay local, who is currently shooting Extraction 2 in Prague, joined forces with VMIN Air Charter to drop food and water to the NSW town of New Italy.
According to the VMIN’s Instagram page, they delivered the goods on 5th March at 9.30am to 10 adults and 4 babies who hadn’t eaten in 12 hours.
They said the Thor actor had wished to remain anonymous, but they couldn’t have completed the mission without his help.
‘Big [love] to @chrishemsworth for funding some of these helicopter flights ensuring rescues, drop offs, checking on animals etc continues. (he’s going to hate us for doing that) Couldn’t do it without the support though.’

AVMIN’s chief executive Paul O’Brien spoke further about the actor’s generosity on Nova FM’s Fitzy & Wippa show.
‘He’s funding a number of helicopter flights down in the Northern Rivers region and just told us to continue with that and just to keep him posted,’ Mr O’Brien said.
‘He obviously feels a bit hopeless at the moment because he’s away in Prague filming, so he’s desperate to get back and do something.
‘But this is just his way of trying to find ways he can assist.’
Chris’ wife Elsa Pataky was reportedly impacted by the devastating floods of northern New South Wales.
The Spanish actress and her children were trapped in their $30million Byron Bay mansion after the entrance to the home became flooded.
‘She was there on her own with her three young children because Chris is currently overseas filming (Extraction 2),’ a source reportedly told the publication.

The insider also revealed that ‘Elsa was stuck in her house for a number of days with no phone reception’, and is now helping friends and neighbours with the water having cleared.
Countless towns in Northern NSW and Queensland have been left devastated by catastrophic floods in recent days, with the clean up effort only now able to begin in some areas while others remain submerged.
Chris has been in Europe since late last year as filming gets underway on the sequel to 2020’s Extraction.
