We’ve heard a lot of wonderful stories of interspecies friendships, from a horse and a dog to a cat and a rhino, and they never cease to amaze us. This enormous gorilla and his small companion are no exception. The fact that they are from two different species is striking enough, but it is their size disparity that truly distinguishes their friendship.
Bobo, a 24-year-old Western Lowland Gorilla, was rescued by Ape Action Africa as a newborn and has now risen to the head of his group. Bobo is presently in charge of three girls and two other men, so he’s not exactly laid-back. The primate, on the other hand, has a sensitive side that he doesn’t often show to others.
The delicious portion of Bobo was only seen by a few lucky critters, including this small bush infant. He ran into the gentle giant at the sanctuary one morning, and the two seemed to get along swimmingly. Their immediate carer, according to Ape Action Africa spokesperson Elissa O’Sullivan, was astounded by what he observed.
“Our gorilla caretaker saw Bobo clutching a newborn, wild bush infant on his morning checks,” O’Sullivan reported. “The bush baby exhibited no fear of Bobo, moving about his body and hopping around in an open grassy area before returning to Bobo.”
O’Sullivan further said that because bush babies (also known as galato) are mainly nocturnal, it’s difficult to come across one during the day. In other words, their meeting was absolutely unique.
“Bush babies are normally nocturnal, so seeing one during the day is quite uncommon.” “At Mefou Sanctuary, we have never seen a wild monkey engage with a rescued ape,” she stated.
Actually, Bobo wasn’t the only one who was overjoyed at his young pal’s arrival. The other apes in his group also wanted to befriend him, but Bobo turned them all down.
“Bobo’s group-mates were inquisitive about the bush baby and hoped that he would share it with them,” O’Sullivan wrote, “but Bobo kept the bush baby to himself.”
Before Bobo let his pal go, the two had been hanging out for approximately two hours straight. Perhaps they’d run into each other again in the future!
