During the Crusades, the Christian forces in Acre lived in constant fear of being attacked by Muslim armies. Despite having fortified the city, there was no guarantee they would be able to hold onto it. To ensure their survival, the Knights Templar, one of the military orders, took matters into their own hands and constructed a covert escape route.
