Iron Man might have died in “Avengers: Endgame” but this Italdesign Nissan GT-R50 inspired by Tony Stark’s suit brings back fond memories.
We all have drooled over the Audi R8 driven by Tony Stark, alias “Iron Man”, along with the red-and-golden suit of the superhero in the movies starring Robert Downey Jr. However, someone from Singapore has proven his fandom for the superhero by ordering an exclusive Italdesign Nissan GT-R50 with a paint job inspired by Iron Man’s suit. Larry Chen, a renowned automotive photographer, documents every detail of the Iron Man-inspired exclusive Nissan supercar.
One of the rarest and most exclusive limited-run Japanese sports cars, the Italdesign GT-R50 is based on the iconic R35 GTR. Out of the limited number of examples to have been built, this Iron Man-inspired GT-R50 is the second one to ever leave Japan. Only one has left Japanese soil before to come to the US. While the GT-R50 is already a rare machine, this one with the Iron Man livery makes it a pure unicorn.
The Italdesign GT-R50 Looks Like Iron Man On Four Wheelsvia Larry Chen
Until now, we have seen the limited-run Nissan GT-R50 delivered in monotone colors like blue, green, and black. However, this Nissan GTR-based sports car delivered to a customer in Singapore gets a dual-tone red and golden-themed paint scheme. It is quite obvious that it resembles the Marvel superhero’s armor.
As can be seen in the pictures of this GT-R50 taken by Larry Chen, the highly-exclusive sports car is painted pearl red. However, as a part of the contrast paint job, many parts and panels of the GT-R50 are painted golden. Body panels like the front intake around the grille, the huge rear bumper, and rear windshield surrounds are finished in gold. The rear fenders feature additional black stripes with the number ‘07’.
In addition, the front chin spoiler and rear diffusers, front fenders, air vents on the front bumper, and wing mirrors receive the gold accents complementing the overall look. While Iron Man’s suit is said to be built from “vibranium and nanotech”, Italdesign has built the GT-R50 from a more reasonable material. The body panels and wheels are made of carbon fiber and that means it is extremely light.
This Iron Man-Inspired GT-R50 Costs A Fortune
At $1.1 million, this is almost ten times more expensive than the standard Nissan GTR, which recently received a heavy makeover. But out of the 50 examples that will be built, this Iron Man inspired GT-R50 will stand out with its unique paint scheme.
This particular Nissan GT-R50 was delivered to the owner in Singapore and joined the car collection of a multi-millionaire. This car collection already includes some of the rarest exotic cars, like a Koenigsegg Agera RS Genesis and Pagani Huayra Tempesta SM. Going by information available on Instagram, he has also ordered the exclusive Bugatti W16 Mistral, the last supercar to feature Bugatti’s famed W16 engine.
What Makes The Italdesign Nissan GT-R50’s Existence So Special?via Nissan
In 2018, Nissan announced that it will make 50 units of the exclusive GT-R50 in collaboration with Italdesign. Like many other Italdesign projects, the GT-R50 gets a comprehensive makeover above the standard Nissan GT-R R35. The differences between both the cars can be seen in the way they look. The GT-R50 features a heavily-revised front and rear styling.
Italdesign’s GT-R50 has a new front fascia with a wider front grille and sleeker headlamps. The rear has also been transformed with a new bumper, a smaller and curvier windshield, and pronounced tail lamps. The front, rear, and side skirts have been revised. While the rear fenders and roof have received minor revision. But if you haven’t noticed from the images, it has a massive wing attached to its boot.
The GT-R50 by Italdesign uses the same 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 from the much-loved Nismo GTR R35. However, this engine has been heavily reworked for the GT-R50, for which it claims 711 hp and 575 lb-ft – almost 146 hp and 108 lb-ft more than the stock Nismo GT-R. Nissan achieved this by borrowing the turbochargers from the Nismo GT3 race car, complimented by a new air intake and exhaust system. Nissan dug deep with this one by adding heavy-duty pistons, con-rods and a lighter crankshaft. Even the transmission and differential have been optimized with new gear ratios.
Aided by the all-wheel-drive system, the GT-R50 claims to be even quicker off the line than the supercar-killing GT-R Nismo, but numbers have not been revealed. While the standard car is one of the best supercars to launch, the changes to the power and drivetrain, along with the lightened body suggest that it is plausible. Furthermore, the Nissan claims it has a higher top speed, which is possible thanks to the new gear ratios.
In 2022, Nissan stopped taking orders for the GT-R50, as all 50 units sold out, of which only two reportedly are sold out of Japan.
