Leopards are well-known for their distinctive patterns and spotting around the world. Asia and sub-Saharan Africa are home to a variety of leopard species. They are well-known to everyone, loved by some, and hated by others. They distinguish themselves from other cats by being able to survive in a variety of environments, such as hot desert plains, lush rainforests, and snow-covered mountain tops.
Leopards are ambush predators that ʜᴜɴᴛ at night. Although baby leopards stay with their mother for up to 18 months, they are lone ʜᴜɴᴛers that only gather to mate. Leopards use their keen hearing and vision to locate their prey.
When a prey item is located, the leopard travels gently in that direction. Cats of all breeds are widely recognized for engaging in this activity, which is known as stalking. The leopard stalks its prey until it is no more than 10 to 15 feet away, using its markings as concealment. The leopard then charges in with amazing quickness. If it is successful, the leopard holds the poor animal’s nose or throat in its mouth while suffocating it.
In addition to having distinctive spots among big cats, leopards are also distinct due to what they do with their ᴋɪʟʟed prey. Leopards haul the body into a tree for storage so they may keep it safe and return to it in the following days to nibble.
