The Ligue 1 giants are said to be a “fractious mess” following their latest failure to win Europe’s top crown.
Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe could leave PSG
Paris Saint-Germain could have a fight on their hands to hold onto superstar duo Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
Christopher Gaiter’s side exited the Champions League at the last-16 stage following a 3-0 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich, with speculation increasing over the French giants long-term strategy. Messi has reportedly considered the idea of ending his career in America and according to agent Jérôme Meary discussions have been ongoing with Inter Miami’s hierarchy for almost two years.
The MLS is believed to be continuing its development with a new €2.3 billion broadcast deal and the 2026 World Cup being held in the country is seen as an opportunity to grow. Meary told L’Equipe: “He has clearly become Jorge Mas’ number one priority, the primary owner of Inter Miami. The first discussions date back to June 2021, before Messi signed with PSG. The talks resumed since then, with Jorge Mas spending a lot of time with Messi’s entourage during the World Cup in Qatar in December.”
While Gaiter has claimed fellow superstar Mbappe does NOT need convincing to remain at the club despite strong suggestions that the French winger could move to Real Madrid to boost his chance of cementing world’s best player status and lifting European silverware. The World Cup winner is contracted to the Paris outfit until 2025.
“I do not have to try to convince Kylian [to stay],” Galtier said in a press conference ahead of their Ligue 1 match against Brest on Saturday evening. “Kylian has expressed it himself, but if you had asked any player you would have found him in the same state – very disappointed after the elimination.
“Concerning Kylian, Kylian is a PSG player and he shows it in every game. He has a great determination to succeed and to perform well in order to help bring the club up to as high a level as possible.”
