Stephen Curry Gets Real On Breaking Up Championship Trio With Klay Thompson And Draymond Green

The defending champions have not had a pretty run this season. With a 35-33 record (including 7-26 away from San Francisco), they are 6th in the West, facing a lot of questions and doubts about their status as contenders.

Despite how bad things have looked this season, Stephen Curry doesn’t want to see his longtime teammates and co-stars anywhere else.

In a chat with Kerith Burke and Monte Poole on the latest episode of “Dubs Talk,” the 2x MVP was very candid about the possibility of the legendary Warriors core (featuring him, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green) being broken up this summer.

“I think it’s special because we are all different,” Curry said. “We all express ourselves differently. We have different games, different personalities, different ways to communicate, but they all mesh, and there’s like a seamlessness when we’re out there on the floor and even in life where you don’t have to be anything other than yourself. And that’s what makes us special and has allowed us to sustain it as long as we have.”

Not every member of the ‘big three’ aren’t as flashy as Curry, but they each bring their own skill set and personality to the franchise and it has allowed them to maintain balance and consistency on both ends of the floor throughout their time together.

“The fact that we’re still doing it says a lot. So it’s kind of unheard of in the league. I know that the [San Antonio] Spurs, old [Boston] Celtics teams, “Showtime” Lakers … there [are] a few examples of teammates that have been together this long and played at the level that we have for as long as we have,” said Curry. “So I don’t know if we’re truly appreciated to be able to really talk about it until it’s over. Hopefully, that’s not anytime soon. But there’s definitely a realization of how unique that trio is and [an] understanding of all the guys that we’ve played with along the way that have made it even more special.”

Can Warriors Trio Stay Together?

With the Warriors struggling and Bob Myers’ contract set to expire, there have been rumblings about the Dubs breaking up their famed championship core. At the very least, there has been some talk about making a big-time move involving their young max player, Jordan Poole.

Whatever the Warriors decide, it’s clear that Steph doesn’t want this era of Warriors basketball to end. And after achieving so much success with Klay and Draymond, it’s no wonder why he’s fighting for them to stick together.
