ty Perry appeared to be feeling a bit sentimental and nostalgic when she decided to give a shout-out to American Idol as it powers into season 21.
As the 21st anniversary of the reality show singing series fast approaches, the pop superstar, who serves as one of the three celebrity judges, took to her Instagram page and shared a throwback snap of herself as a 21-year-old in 2005.
‘#idol is celebrating its 21st bday this year,’ she began in the caption of the photo showing her standing in front of a rack of cloths, either in a store or a walk-in closet.
The Santa Barbara, California native can be seen staring straight into the camera wearing an off-white sweater with fringe hanging from each of the short sleeves, with her dark locks pulled off her face, along big confident smile on her face.
The Firework star proceeded to tell how her 21st birthday party was marred with a couple of accidents that resulted in injuries.

‘When I turned 21 I rented a roller skating rink and had McDonald’s “cater” along w/ 2 kegs in the middle of the rink… and two friends broke bones but we had a lot of fun (so I was told idk I had just turned 21),’ she said of her birthday bash.
She ended the post by moving on to the promotion of the new Idol season, and asking fans to share their experiences of their milestone 21st birthday.

And there were no shortages of people who took to Instagram to respond to her request.
Many people kept it simple and shared comments like: ‘A friend took me out to bars @ Indiana University campus!’ and ‘Celebrating 21 in Vegas tomorrow.’
There was even one woman who had no choice but to stay at home and stay safe, writing, ‘Celebrate[d] at home in a pandemic,’ in a reference to COVID-19.
But then there were others who had monumental experiences, like meeting a long lost family member.
‘When I turned 21 like two days before I had always believed thoughts become reality and so I always imagined meeting my biological mother and to my belief with the help of my PI she called me on my birthday and we United,’ a grateful woman shared.

Many commenters’ 21st birthday experience involved the drinking of alcohol for the first time, legally in the US.
‘I was in the hospital getting my gallbladder removed,’ a woman revealed. ‘Nurses tried to help me celebrate by jokingly saying they’d swap my fluid iv bag with vodka since they’re both clear liquids it’s the same thing.’
One young man wrote, ‘I flew to LA – had lunch in Weho, went shopping in the afternoon, had dinner in Los Feliz… then got sh**faced in Hollywood and had UberEats deliver McDonald’s before I passed out while watching Golden Girls at 2AM.’
And finally, there were some people who already had their first legal sips of alcohol in countries where the drinking ages are 18 or 19.
‘Celebrated with my college’s business professors in a pub in London while studying abroad, you know, where it’s legal to drink at like 18,’ one person shared, while others had said they had their first drink in Canada at 19.

American Idol will officially reach its 21st anniversary on June 11, which is the date it premiered on Fox back in 2002.
It proceeded to go on a 15 season run on the network before it got canceled, airing its finale show on April 7, 2016.
After a two-year hiatus, the reality competition series would get new life on ABC, where it has now be running for five more seasons an counting.
Perry, along with Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie have served as the judges since the revival of the show began on ABC.
Season 21 of the reality show singing competition just premiere on February 19 with the same three judges back on the panel and Ryan Seacrest serving as host once again.
Earlier on Sunday, Perry again slipped into promo mode for American Idol Instagram and shared a series of snaps of herself decked out in a plaid shoulder-less dress and her raven tresses down over her chest and shoulder.
‘Good girl gone PLAID (or at least back to prismatic vibes) on #americanidol tonight @ 8/7c,’ she wrote.
