French soccer star Kylian Mbappe has stated how close he is to his father and brother. In a video uploaded by Brut on Youtube, Mbappe talked about how privileged he feels after becoming a soccer player. He also mentioned that he feels lost without his father or brother.
He said, “I always felt indebted. I always told myself that I was very privileged because I have the chance to make my passion my career. And to do it rather well.”
Mbappe has grown up in a family of athletes, so he naturally took to a sporting profession. His mother Fayza Lamari was an Algerian handball player. His father Wilfried Mbappe is a soccer coach. He has a younger brother, Ethan, who plays in the Paris Saint-Germain academy. Ethan is hoping to follow in his brother’s footsteps and play for PSG and France. Mbappe also has an adoptive brother Jires Kembo Ekoko, who is also a soccer player.
How Kylian Mbappe’s father Wilfried Mbappe made him a soccer star
Wilfried Mbappe is a lover of soccer himself and took up coaching at a young age. He was Kylian’s first coach. He helped Kylian start the journey of a player that has already won the FIFA World Cup and is set to break numerous records.
Wilfried said to L’Equipe, “I didn’t take Kylian with me right away. I wanted it to come from him, but because he was breaking everything at home while playing in the living room, I ended up taking him around 4 years old to a beginners’ series.”
He said he had difficulties drawing the line between father and coach.
“In fact, I tried to shape him to my vision of football … Selfishly, I wanted him to like ‘my’ football. I took him under my guardianship when I could have left him with another coach. But as I did for others, why not do it for my own? Soon enough, I realized he had something.
During a beginners’ tournament in Charny, near Auxerre, he made some nice moves and quite a few goals. We reached the final, but the leader of the opposite team complained about Kylian. ‘He does stuff a rookie can’t do!’ Yet, Kylian was the shortest of them all and by far. We had to show him his license. It’s the first time I said to myself ‘Hey, it’s not just me who noticed…’ Subsequently, I had him until U17, except for two seasons.”
Kylian began his career at AS Bondy and eventually moved to Clairefontaine Academy. He was eyed by numerous top clubs all across Europe. Chelsea even invited him for trials but rejected him because he was not good enough defensively. A move Chelsea obviously regret today.
Mbappe settled for AS Monaco. He began his senior career with the French club and after impressing the world with his skills he earned a big-money move to PSG.
