Katy Perry has been slammed as ‘rude and condescending’ by American Idol fans after the star was caught up in a mom-shaming controversy on the show.
The singer, 38, was accused by viewers of being too harsh towards contestants on the ABC talent show during Tuesday night’s episode.
It comes after Sarah Beth Liebe quit American Idol following a ‘mom-shaming’ row ignited by Katy as the judge was slammed for remarks made during her audition.
As the show’s dreaded Hollywood week came around once again, one star dropped out moments before her duet while two partners were left feeling the pressure.
But viewers accused Katy of treating the contestants too harshly as they accused her of being ‘condescending’.

Their remarks came when host Ryan Seacrest took to Instagram to share behind-the-scenes shots from the show, but some fans took to the comments to fume over Katy’s behaviour.
One wrote: ‘Katy is so rude and condescending to the contestants unless it’s a male cutie then she acts like a teenage fool. One contestant quit because of her., bye bye Katie!’
While another fumed: ‘And the Katy Perry remarks were rude also. Lost control, the show is now contrived and it’s an insult to the viewer! Bye bye.’
MailOnline has contacted Katy’s representatives for comment.
During Tuesday night’s episode, Katy was accused of being too harsh on contestants Carina DeAngelo and Nutsa Abuza, who struggled with their duet.
Carina, 25, of Kailua, Hawaii, got upset during rehearsals when duet partner Nutsa, 25, from Georgia, went to bed when she wanted to keep practicing.
‘It hurts my feelings when someone doesn’t take it as seriously as I do,’ Carina said. ‘Hollywood week is not a joke, it’s like Hunger Games or something.’
Nutsa showed back up an hour later, saying she knew the song, I Put A Spell on You, but that Carina was panicking. They kept practicing until 3:20am but Carina still wasn’t happy.
‘I just want to f***ing sound good and it doesn’t right now,’ Carina said. ‘I don’t want to go home.’
Before they performed, the pair told the judges that they had been clashing, with Katy asking for more details on what had happened.
When they explained what had happened with their late-night row, Katy said: ‘Maybe we should just let them sing.’

After the pair took to the stage, the judges were left unimpressed by their performance and didn’t shy away from giving their feedback.
Lionel Richie said: ‘I must admit it was a little,’ before Katy interrupted to add: ‘Underwhelming.’
In the end, the judges voted to keep Nutsa but Katy then encouraged her to have more grace.
The latest criticism comes after American Idol star Sara Beth Liebe quit the competition following a ‘mom-shaming’ row ignited by Katy.
On March 5, Sara revealed that she had given birth to three children before age 25 – leading mother-of-one Katy to quip that she had ‘been laying on the table too much’.
Katy – who shares daughter Daisy, two, with fiance Orlando Bloom, 46 – was widely criticised for the remark while Sara later took to TikTok to admit she found the joke ‘hurtful’.
Sara chose to walk away from the competition to ‘be with her babies’ during Sunday’s Hollywood week episode – leaving judges and show producers in shock.
She had performed her first round song, The Police hit Roxanne, before telling judges Katy, Luke Bryan and Lionel: ‘This opportunity is really rad, but this is actually going to be my last performance, because my heart’s at home.
‘So, I’m going get home to my babies. They kind of need me.’
Luke branded the decision a ‘mistake’ while Katy begged her to reconsider, with Sara replying: ‘I don’t even know what show business is. I’ve been a mom since I was 18. I’ve been married since I was 18. I don’t think I realized quite how hard it would be to be away from my kids.
‘They’re all still really young. There is a lot of guilt when you leave your kids to do something completely selfish. I feel like I’m not gonna win the show anyway, so I might as well go home.’
Katy said: ‘You’ve opened a door you never thought you would open, and you got a yes. You may get another yes in the future. Do not give up.’
Sara said backstage: ‘I’m really humbled and grateful, and Katy had some really nice things to say. If my kids were a little older… I understand how big of an opportunity this is, but I still kinda wanna go home.

Sharing a TikTok video after her exit was confirmed, Sara revealed she’d had a panic attack shortly after her first audition.
She wrote: ‘A lot of people don’t realize that I was scouted to audition. They reached out to me. And I’m so grateful. I’ve never had this much support with singing. And it’s mind-blowing and so humbling and has made me realize how badly I want to do music.
‘Six months ago, I didn’t know that yet. But I’m also allowed to make hard choices that are best for me.’
When she revealed she had welcomed three kids before turning 25, Katy pretended as though she was going to faint, which prompted Sara Beth to say: ‘If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m going to pass out.’
Katy then quipped: ‘Honey, you been laying on the table too much.’
In a new TikTok, the aspiring singer admitted that she found the joke ‘hurtful’ and went on to discourage people from taking part in ‘mom-shaming’.
