Harry Potter actress began dating the Oxford University student in 2011
The magic has worn off.
Emma Watson is no longer dating Will Adamowicz, the Harry Potter actress’ rep confirms to E! News. “Emma and Will separated last summer and are no longer in touch,” the rep told the U.K.’s The Mirror, which first reported that the 23-year-old movie star is single on Sunday, Jan. 5.
The cause of the couple’s split is not yet known. The two met as students at Oxford University in 2011.
Watson is not the kind of actress who uses her love life as a publicity tool. After she was caught making out with Adamowicz at the Coachella Music Festival in April 2012, for example, she was mortified—and miffed that the paps found her.
“My friend got me tickets for my birthday, and what am I going to say? No, I’m not going to go, because I don’t want to be photographed? But it was a huge crowd, and I thought there was no way anyone could get pictures of me, but somehow they found me,” Watson sighed in the October 2012 issue of Glamour in magazine. “It’s difficult on my dating life, because anyone I get photographed with is automatically my boyfriend. So it just makes it look as if I’ve had, like, 6,000 boyfriends!”
That same month, Watson explained the difference between dating British and American men during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “English guys are very well put together,” the Bling Ring star said. “They dress really well and they are very well mannered. But they are also very restrained. Usually in the whole courting situation, I’m used to being first of all, ignored for the first two months of the ritual. And then maybe they’ll acknowledge my presence. Then, they’ll probably be a little mean to me. And then, maybe we’ll, you know…whatever.”
American men, by contrast, are more forthright. “I remember a few nights into Brown [University], this guy just being like, ‘I like you. You’re great. Let’s go on a date. Let’s do it.’ I’m like, ‘I’m sorry, what just happened?’ This is like a huge culture shock for me,” Watson admitted. “They’re very, like, open and very straight-forward—but they wear flip-flops and I don’t know if I like that.”
