Margot Robbie has turned on the waterworks on the silver screen countless times. She’s sobbed in movies including recent release Babylon as well as others such as I, Tonya and The Wolf of Wall Street. But how does she do it?
Margot Robbie has revealed how she’s able to “cry on command” in movies thanks to a simple sleep hack.
The Australian actress, 32, might be best known for playing glamorous women in films such as recent release Babylon and The Wolf of Wall Street, but she also possesses an acting gift – the ability to turn on the waterworks.
She’s had to sob on the silver screen in several hit movies, including I, Tonya and Bombshell.
And she does it very convincingly – probably because they’re always real tears.
Now, she’s revealed exactly how she does it.
Speaking on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, she explained that there are three big contributing factors.
She continued: “If I have to do a lot of crying I try not to sleep a lot in the days leading up to it because the more tired I am, the easier it is to cry.

“You know when you’re really tired and you’re on the brink of tears if you’re really, really overtired, so yeah, I just get like two, three hours sleep the three days leading up to it and then I can cry easily.”
Margot pointed to one of her previous roles, pre-dating her move to Hollywood, as the third factor.
Before she got her big break in Tinsel Town, the A-Lister had a decent stint on Neighbours in her Aussie homeland.

“I just cry on command,” she said.
“I just think of something sad – family dying and things like that. Yeah, but… it works.”

She said: “I also worked on a soap for three years so I practised the crying thing.”
Margot was on the podcast alongside her Babylon co-star Diego Calva to talk about Damien Chazelle’s debauchery-filled film set in the roaring 1920s.
She also revealed that she’s a huge fan of WWE legend and actor John Cena, who like her appears in The Suicide Squad.
