Russell Westbrook is trying to destroy all the negative narratives about him as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers and making an impact in their first-round series.
Westbrook was praised for his incredible defensive performance to clinch a Game 1 win on the Suns’ home court. He had multiple blocks that game, including one on Kevin Durant. He repeated that on KD in Game 2 and fans are going crazy.
Some fans blamed the Lakers for everything that went wrong with Russ in the last 2 seasons.
Westbrook’s success is making fans happy.
Some fans maintained that Westbrook is still ‘that dude’.
A fan pointed out that these may just be Westbrook revenge games.
Westbrook’s solid defensive plays in clutch games as a Clipper is slowly becoming the norm and no longer a surprise.
Russ is receiving more and more love as a playoff defender.
The game is yet to reach halftime and the Clippers have a double-digit lead over the Suns. A Game 2 loss at home may be deadly for the Suns’ chances of advancing in this series, so they have to find a way to make a comeback and go back to Los Angeles with the series tied.
Will Russell Westbrook Be Consistent?
In Game 1, Russ had a horrible offensive showing by shooting just 3/19 from the floor. His 10 points in Game 2 already means he’s scored more than he did in Game 1. Even if his shot isn’t falling regularly, Westbrook can continue using his hustle and grit to continue impacting the game in positive ways.
Even though the Lakers traded him away, Darvin Ham always mentioned the potential Russ had as a defender, something he’s proving to the world now. He averaged 15.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 7.6 assists in 21 games for the Clippers since joining them off the buyout market.
