La Liga president Javier Tebas has suggested that Barcelona would have to take ‘financial measures’ if they wanted to re-sign Lionel Messi.
The Catalan giants are keen to bring the Argentinian back to Spain, considering the fact he is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires this summer.
However, the La Liga leaders have been dealt a blow to any pursuit of their former No. 10 after recent comments made by league president Tebas.
At a recent La Liga assembly, Tebas said: ‘Barca must take many financial measures to undertake Messi’s registration. They need lot of effort to make it happen.
‘Today I don’t see his signing as feasible. But there’s a lot of time left, Barca can still make moves to get Leo.

‘We are still awaiting a feasibility plan from Barcelona. They need a big effort to make it happen.’
Messi left Barcelona in floods of tears in 2021 after the two parties could not reach an agreement on a contract renewal.
It was seen as one of the first major steps of Laporta’s return to the presidency, with the club facing a major financial crisis after years of wild overspending.
Barcelona are presently mired in a series of scandals and issues, some related to their finances and it’s believed that these could have an impact on their summer transfer plans, though a move for Messi would not command a fee.
Barcelona will have to raise £178million from selling current players if they are to have any chance of entering the transfer market this summer, the club has been informed.
This latest update came in March, less than a month after Laporta claimed the club was in a strong position, vowed to cut £150m from the wage bill, and stated that no player sales would be necessary.
The club previously spent big in the summer of 2022 on the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde, despite seemingly being hamstrung by monetary issues.
However, they triggered several economic levers, including their TV rights, in order to be able to afford the costly outlay, but still are thought to be in debt to the tune of around £1billion.
Xavi’s Barcelona side have been eager to orchestrate a return to the Camp Nou for Messi
Messi has scored 19 goals for Christophe Galtier’s PSG this season, with 14 of those coming during Ligue 1 fixtures and four from Champions League games.
During his time at Barcelona, Messi scored 672 goals and cemented his status as one of the greatest players ever.
If Messi did go back to Barcelona then he would be playing under Xavi, with whom he shared many memorable moments as a player.
The Argentinian will be hoping to add to his current tally in Ligue 1 when his side face Angers on Friday night.
