The Golden State Warriors have a solid second unit this NBA season, but that hasn’t translated into good performances in the 2023 playoffs. After two consecutive losses to the Sacramento Kings, things aren’t going that well in Dubs Nation.
According to Chris Broussard, the young guys on the team aren’t happy with their roles during this series, and they want to see more playing time.
“I was talking to somebody earlier who’s ‘in the know’ who said that some of their players are pouting,” Broussard said on a recent episode of ‘The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard & Rob Parker.’ “The young boys. [Jonathan] Kuminga, [Donte] DiVincenzo, Jordan Poole… ‘Cause they’re not getting minutes.”
When you take a look at these players’ recent performances, it’s easy to see why they haven’t seen that many minutes. Their contributions have been minimal for the Warriors, and Poole, who is expected to lead the second unit, struggled a lot to find his rhythm in Game 2 of this series.
Just like DiVincenzo, who looked a little bit lost at Golden1 Center. They only played a combined 33 minutes in the second game of the series, just scoring 4 points. These numbers don’t help the Warriors at all, and they have to prove their worth if they want to see more minutes in the future.
Warriors Enter Game 3 0-2 Down vs. Kings
Perhaps the absence of Draymond Green for Game 3 will force them to step up and provide help to their team, but given their first two performances, the Kings could be in to get a third win this series.
In two games this year, Poole is averaging 10.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game in 18.5 minutes. DiVincenzo is posting 5.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while averaging 16.0 minutes per game. Kuminga has barely recorded 4.0 points, 0.5 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per outing while playing 7.0 minutes per game.
If they can maximize their opportunities, they will see more action, but right now, the Warriors need to rely on their starters and the veterans on the bench to keep their championship hopes alive.
