90min revealed Man Utd are about to push away midfielder Harry Maguire as an attempt for Erik Ten Hag to rebuild the defence. Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan, the big boys of Serie A, immediately noticed the move. They are interested in a loan deal, with an option to buy permanently for the English player.
Such an agreement would not be perfect for the “Red Devils” but Man Utd would need it to limit the effects of Financial Fair Play. Maguire is now 30 years old and is earning £190,000 a week.
Last time, the English midfielder had the opportunity to play after the unexpected injury of Lisandro Martínez. However, a disastrous performance against Sevilla in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final could put an end to Maguire’s future at Man Utd.
“There is a feeling that no team-mate still believes in Maguire. If you want to race for the title, Man Utd cannot keep a player who makes mistakes in the team,” Goal commented.
90min ‘s report last month said that Ten Hag is working to bring in a new centre-back at Old Trafford. The Dutchman is said to be interested in Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, although Portuguese duo Goncalo Inacio (Sporting CP) and Antonio Silva (Benfica) are also preferred by Man Utd scouts.
Besides Maguire, the future of Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Old Trafford is also in question. Dalot has a contract with Man Utd until the summer of 2024, while Wan-Bissaka has only started nine times in the Premier League this season. The limited ability to support attacks makes Wan-Bissaka unsuitable for the system that Ten Hag built.
