With just some more games left to be played this season, the fate of Real Madrid’s campaign still is up in the air. It could be a massive success, with the club in the Copa del Rey final and the Champions League semi-finals. Or it could turn out to be a major failure, if they fail to deliver silverware.
Carlo Ancelotti’s future might be decided based upon that. Despite all the criticism that the Italian has received through the course of the campaign, he deserves immense credit.
Not many other managers could have done the job that he has, with limited depth and so many injury problems. Now, it is important to finish the campaign strong and bring home some silverware, hopefully the 15th Champions League crown.
One problem that Real Madrid are facing right now though is regarding the pitch at Santiago Bernabeu. Even Ancelotti has admitted to it. As reported by 90min, the manager said regarding the matter:
“The grass has a problem, they are working on it and hopefully they can find a solution.
“It is clear that the work is affecting it. It is not surprising. It is suffering. It will change, naturally, before City.”
Ancelotti admits to problem Real Madrid have with the pitch
It looks like the construction work that has been going on at the Santiago Bernabeu for a few years now has had a negative effect on the pitch. It has had to be replaced multiple times already. And it did not look in good shape in Real Madrid’s recent game against Celta Vigo at the weekend.
It is what it is though. And with the club redeveloping the stadium, it is a short-term issue, with a much greater long-term gain in sight.
One would be hoping that the pitch is in top shape when Real Madrid welcome Manchester City for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie next month. Days before that, they will play the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna. Thus, Los Blancos have some big games coming up.
