Being one of the most likable stars in the entire industry, fans have been long wanting to witness Keanu Reeves in the MCU. Although the actor has previously showcased his interest in working with Marvel, the actor was once offered to star in one of the MCU projects before the release of the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame.
But despite being a fan of the comic book genre, the actor reportedly refused the enormous deal and the opportunity to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, his decision to decline the offer was a result of his loyalty to another franchise, which garnered him immense appreciation in the latter half of the 2010s.
Keanu Reeves reportedly declined the offer to star in Captain Marvel
After the success of The Matrix, Keanu Reeves would become a high-profile star in Hollywood but it wasn’t until the release of John Wick, which would cement him as one of the most admirable stars in the industry. Following the success that he garnered from starring in the action franchise, Keanu Reeves too gave his all to ensure the success of the John Wick movies and pulled off most of the stunts by himself. And considering his love for the franchise, when asked about joining the MCU he just couldn’t do it.
Following the alluring MCU deal, it was reported that The Matrix star was offered to star as Yon-Rogg in MCU’s Captain Marvel, which went on to garner over a billion dollars at the box office. Considering that the actor was attached to John Wick: Chapter 3 at the time, due to contractual obligations he had to let the MCU role slide, which would later go on to Sherlock Holmes star Jude Law instead. But despite passing the opportunity, Reeves has been pretty vocal about his want to star in the MCU.
Keanu Reeves wanted to play the role of Wolverine in MCU
With the success of John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu Reeves is set to take a break from the enormous franchise and shift his focus to other projects for the time. Apart from his desire to craft a sequel to Constantine, which is reportedly being developed and may fall under the Elseworlds banner of the DC universe, Reeves also expressed his desire to star in MCU. When asked if he was interested in working with Marvel, being an X-Men fan, the actor expressed his want to portray Wolverine.
But with Hugh Jackman reprising the role in the Deadpool threequel and considering Reeves’s age, he might not get the opportunity to star as Wolverine in the MCU. However, fans have been speculating about various other roles that the actor could end up playing, including the character of Ghost Rider and fans will hope that they soon get to witness Reeves’ MCU debut.
