Jorge Messi, father and agent of Lionel, has revealed today that no decision will be made on his son’s footballing future until the end of the season.
This follows reports earlier today that Messi had already agreed a deal in principle to join a Saudi Arabian club.
News that Messi would once again rival Cristiano Ronaldo next season is, however, premature. Jorge Messi insists that no deal has been struck with any club.
“There is absolutely no nothing [agreed] with any club for next year,” reads a statement issued by Jorge Messi on Tuesday.
“In no case will be the decision be made before Lionel [Messi] finishes the season with Paris Saint-Germain.
“Once the season is over, it will be the time to analyse and see what there is and then take a decision.
“There are always rumours and many use Lionel’s name to gain attention, but there is only one truth and we can assure you there is nothing [agreed] with anyone.
“Not verbal, not signed, not agreed. And there won’t be until the end of the season.”
Jorge Messi went on to further criticise those who are in the business of rumour-mongering and he suggested that perhaps ulterior motives were at play in some cases.
“I think it’s a lack of respect that some people are consciously and deliberately being deceitful without providing any proof to back up their claims,” said Jorge Messi, “aiming to make news out of any old ill-intentioned rumour or which are fed by someone to help their own interests.
“They will have to explain why their information doesn’t add up. They don’t want the truth to ruin their ‘news'”.
Plenty of options
As MARCA have been saying, Messi has plenty of admirers and won’t be short of options come the summer.
As things stand, he hasn’t renewed his PSG contract and looks set to try pastures new.
The most concrete offer has been from Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, but it’s not the only one. Barcelona haven’t hidden their interest in bringing Messi ‘home’.
