There’s no Chris Hemsworth-starring “Crocodile Dundee” after allSay bye to your dreams of watching a new instalment starring the “Thor” actor
The “Crocodile Dundee” ‘movie trailers’ that has been circulating online turned out to be fake.
25 Jan – In this age of internet, a sure-fire to pique global interest is by making a viral video featuring famous people – and that’s exactly what Australia recently did.Riding on Chris Hemsworth’s ‘Thor-rific’ coattail (or his bright red cape, more like), the country used the actor in what could only be called a brilliant way of promoting itself.Last week, fans of the original “Crocodile Dundee” series, which spanned three movies from 1986 to 2001, were surprised to see a teaser for a fourth movie drop online.Titled “Dundee: The Son of A Legend Returns Home”, the movie supposedly stars Danny McBride (“Alien: Covenant”) as the illegitimate son of the titular character that was made famous by Paul Hogan in the ’80s.
McBride’s character, Brian Dundee, is an uptight American looking for his father in Australia.Later another teaser dropped featuring Hemsworth, co-starring as laidback Australian Wally Jr., supposedly the son of Wally, Crocodile Dundee’s business partner in the original movie.Understandably, everyone was left scratching their heads, some even asked, “It’s not just a Super Bowl commercial is it?”Well…
Chris Hemsworth and Danny McBride promoting their fake “Crocodile Dundee” movie.
According to Brisbane Times, it is just a Super Bowl commercial.Industry sources told the news outlet that the “new movie” is part of an advertising campaign for Tourism Australia, which is scheduled to air at the NFL Super Bowl next month. The idea of the whole thing being a viral marketing stunt adds up: Hemsworth is a Tourism Australia ambassador, listed director Steve Rogers is actually an award-winning advertisement director, and then there’s the lack of Screen Australia’s logo’s presence on the promotional materials. So sorry fans (or yay?), looks like there won’t be a fourth “Crocodile Dundee” instalment starring the McBride-Hemsworth pairing releasing in cinemas this year – or ever.Don’t fret, mate. In 2018, fans can still catch Chris Hemsworth in the currently-showing “12 Strong” and the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War”, while Danny McBride will be in slasher movie “Halloween”.
