Out of nowhere, reports had emerged recently linking Kylian Mbappe to a move to Santiago Bernabeu once again. The reports had come out of England, but the Spanish media has since trashed the speculations, suggesting the club have no intention to sign the player.
Real Madrid are reportedly not interested in paying a single euro to PSG. The relationship between the two clubs has completely collapsed, though the situation could change in 2024.
A recent report from MARCA has offered an update on the situation. The report points out how Real Madrid’s decision to not go after Mbappe is not motivated by ‘revenge’ but is rather a well-calculated sporting decision.
Indeed, Real Madrid are not in a position to afford Mbappe’s salary. The club also do not like Nasser Al-Khelaifi and what PSG represent as a club. But more importantly, Real Madrid view Vinicius Junior, with all due respect to Mbappe, as a more able performer than the Frenchman.
The explosive forward is rated much higher in the Real Madrid camp than Mbappe, with the club certain that the Brazilian adds more value to the team.
Vinicius has indeed been an asset to Real Madrid in recent years. This season, for example, the Brazilian international has racked up 23 goals and 21 assists – making him one of the most productive players in Europe. What is more important is that the forward has delivered on the big stage and in big matches, including the Champions League.
Therefore, Los Blancos are not entertaining the thought of hiring Mbappe, especially as long as he is contractually obligated to PSG.
The report suggests the situation could change should Mbappe terminate his contract at PSG in 2024. But until that happens, the board will not be obsessed with the idea of bringing the Frenchman to Santiago Bernabeu.
