Charlize Theron is beloved by many as a villain in the Fast and Furious franchise. But has she displayed some of that by putting two megastars in each other’s crosshairs in real life? The answer cannot be justified by anyone except Theron herself. But her statement might have reopened old wounds for Hollywood megastar, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The former WWE champion has portrayed some of the most intriguing roles in Hollywood and even lost out on many coveted roles.
However, it seems like a fellow contemporary could be in the conversation to take his spot in the Fast franchise. But the interesting part is that it could be the same actor who has previously snatched yet another iconic role from him.
Which Hollywood Star did Charlize Theron pick for the Fast Saga?
Charlize Theron made her debut in the Fast and Furious films in 2017. Theron’s first appearance came in their eighth installment, The Fate of The Furious. She portrays the conniving and dangerous terrorist, Cipher, who targets Dominic Torretto and his family. Much like Theron, we know the franchise to constantly make additions as they progressed over the years.
The beloved $5 Billion dollar franchise has seen stars like Kurt Russell, Jason Statham, and Luke Evans join the films over the years. However, the most prominent addition was none other than the highest-paid actor in Hollywood, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. After appearing in four installments, Johnson quit the franchise due to a reported conflict with the film’s major star and producer, Vin Diesel.
urthermore, Charlize Theron talked about which actor she would like to see join the cast during the Fast X premiere. The Sweet November actress stated that she would love to see Top Gun star, Tom Cruise in the Fast saga.
“I mean, why not. Let’s send him an invite. If the fans want him then it’s done. He can’t say no,” said Theron.
Despite not recognizing the connection, Cruise has a history with Johnson in terms of being preferred for a role.
Charlize Theron’s choice has an interesting history with Dwayne Johnson when it comes to iconic roles
While Charlize Theron picked Tom Cruise, she might have not realized that this would not be the first time he potentially would take Dwayne Johnson’s place in a massive movie. The People’s Champion revealed in 2020 that he lost the role of “Jack Reacher” to Cruise in 2012. At the time, Johnson felt that he fit the stature and look for the role, but the casting eventually went ahead with Tom Cruise.
Dwayne Johnson had earlier portrayed the role of DSS agent ‘Luke Hobbs in the Fast films. He made his first appearance in Fast Five and continued to appear in the next three subsequent films. Following his exit from the main franchise movies, he starred in its spin-off, The Fast and Furious present: Hobbs and Shaw.
With only one film left to be released next year, do you think we could see the star power of Tom Cruise at the end of the road? What do you make of Theron’s comments?
