Tom Cruise is known for two things- his high-octane action stunts and his two marriages. Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes are two high-profile Hollywood celebrities who married the Top Gun star before divorcing him. Kidman’s marriage lasted from 1990 to 2001 while Holmes’ marriage to the star lasted from 2006 to 2012.
It was later revealed that allegedly there was an attempt by the Church of Scientology to find Cruise a girlfriend in the 4-year gap between these two relationships. The name of the alleged girlfriend candidate was Nazanin Boniadi, and as per a damning documentary she was treated poorly by the organization and Cruise.
How Was The Alleged Secret Scientology Girlfriend Of Tom Cruise Chosen?
Nazanin Boniadi
HBO’s Scientology documentary, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, based on a book of the same name by Lawrence Wright, made a tonne of comments and allegations against the Church of Scientology. While there were plenty of eyebrow-raising and inflammatory depictions of the new religion, one little thing caught many viewers’ eye- that the Church had apparently assigned Nazanin Boniadi the job of being the Mission Impossible star’s girlfriend.
The documentary stated that the Church of Scientology did anything and everything to keep Tom Cruise happy because as per them, especially leader David Miscavige, he was the ideal Scientology celebrity. So they tricked his cars and motorbikes, as well as upgraded his airplane hanger in California, among other things. So when Cruise was looking for a girlfriend after his divorce from Kidman, the organization volunteered to find him a partner.
So they found Nazanin Boniadi, a young and dedicated Scientologist. As per the documentary, she “believed in the church’s claims for its humanitarianism mission. In fact, she set a monthly record for selling books for the church.” So David Miscavige picked up Boniadi’s case and handed it to Greg Wilhere, a top Church official. Wilhere “put her through a one-month program of on-camera interviews, intensive auditing, and some security checks.”
But she wasn’t told what it was all for. The only thing the London-raised woman knew was that she was on a special assignment. Once Boniadi was given the clear, she was allegedly bought $20,000 worth of shoes and clothes by the Scientology church. Also, her hair was colored as per Cruise’s preferences and she was flown to New York in first class. It was on that plane that she allegedly realized what was going on.

Tom Cruise and David Miscavige
Going Clear stated that soon Nazanin Boniadi was living with Tom Cruise. But there was trouble. One day in Cruise’s Telluride home, David Miscavige came to visit and it was the beginning of the end. The documentary stated:
“Overcome by a severe headache, Nazanin had a hard time understanding Miscavige, which infuriated him. The next day, Cruise — inches from her face — pounded on the table and screamed at her for insulting the head of the church.”
Two weeks later, her relationship with the superstar was over. But the breakup wasn’t done by Cruise himself, but by Tommy Davis, a Scientologist Church henchman. But that wasn’t the end. The HBO documentary stated that Church members went to her apartment and cleaned out every physical evidence of their relationship. So it was like the entire ordeal didn’t happen at all.

To make things worse, the Church made her clean out “the public bathroom on her hands and knees with a toothbrush, while other people she knew were stepping over her.” This punishment was because she had violated her NDA and told a friend about her situation in a moment of distress. In the years following, neither Nazanin Boniadi nor Tom Cruise have ever publicly spoken about any relationship between them.
The Church of Scientology termed the Going Clear documentary as fake propaganda. Today, Boniadi is an actress with acclaimed shows like How I Met Your Mother, Scandal, and Homeland, in her filmography. Tom Cruise will next be seen in Mission Impossible 7.
