Exasperated, coach Pep Guardiola shoots objects at colleagues

A frustrated Pep Guardiola booted a water bottle straight into the Leeds United bench after watching his side concede – but instantly sprinted over to apologise.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola frantically raced over to apologise to the Leeds United bench after expertly booting a water bottle in their direction.

The Spaniard was left fuming after watching his team throw away a clean sheet at Elland Road, looking down at the helpless beverage before delivering a strike that Erling Haaland would be proud of.

Messing up his kick and watching it fly into the opposition dugout, Guardiola put his hands on his head and raced over to apologise without a moment of thought.

One amused fan wrote on Twitter: “That’s an interesting take on ensuring the Leeds bench stay hydrated…”

A second laughed: “Pep hitting someone from Leeds with a water bottle was the highlight of the game.”

A third said: “Pep toe punting that water bottle at someone has me DEAD.”

A fourth then concluded: “Dying at that pep water bottle video.”

Guardiola didn’t have much to be angry about on the night, with Rodri opening the scoring and Haaland getting two of his own before Pascal Struijk could head home a consolation.

Guardiola told BBC Sport after the game: “We played really well against this team in this stadium. We made a great performance in the second half when they were a bit more open.

“After the World Cup, nobody knows how we were going to react and the way Leeds were playing lately. Today with the ball we were brilliant.

“The relationship between Rico Lewis and Rodri was brilliant in the middle of the pitch.”

Haaland was unsurprisingly named man of the match despite the simplicity of his goals, admitting after the game he could have found the net five times.

He said on Prime Video: “I have a (goal) target but I cannot say it. I just said inside the dressing room that I could have scored five but the most important thing is that we won.

“We have to hunt Arsenal. I could have scored a couple more but that’s life and I have to train more. I’ve been at home, a bit mad that I’ve not been at the World Cup. I recharged my batteries.

“Watching other people score to win games at the World Cup triggered, motivated and irritated me. I’m more hungry than ever.”
