Tottenham Hotspur still regard one-time manager Mauricio Pochettino very highly at Hotspur Way and there is a feeling inside the club that he would have an “added edge” if he returned to north London, journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Speaking to Sky Sports News last month, Pochettino revealed that he is open to a return to management in the Premier League, having spent the best part of six years on English shores managing both Southampton and Tottenham.
The 50 year-old Argentine was linked with the Aston Villa job in September following the pressure that then-head coach Steven Gerrard was facing at Villa Park, but Unai Emery was tasked with turning around the West Midlands side’s fortunes.
Jones has previously told GiveMeSport that Daniel Levy could potentially make a play for the Lilywhites’ former boss to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, should Conte leave the club in the future.
And the journalist states that some people inside the club believe Pochettino would return with “a bit more bite” if he was to be re-appointed as the club’s head coach.
What has Jones said about Tottenham and Pochettino?
Jones told GiveMeSport: “Pochettino is still highly regarded at the club, there’s no doubt about that. There’s even a feeling within some at Tottenham that if he did come back, he might have an added edge to him, even a bit more bite and motivation to go one step further than he did last time.
“He set a new standard at Tottenham when he was there and it was very hard to get back to that moment.”
What next for Tottenham?
Whilst the club will always be considering potential replacements for Conte should the Italian leave the north London outfit, Spurs’ immediate focus will be on trying to achieve a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, as well as going deep into both the Champions League and FA Cup.
Jones has recently told GiveMeSport that the former Chelsea manager is hoping to be backed in the upcoming January transfer window with two new signings, preferably a defender and a forward.
With a big second half of the campaign on the horizon for Tottenham, the club will need to assess their long-term future under Conte and make plans for a change in staff at the end of the campaign, with Pochettino potentially serving as a genuine option to take up the post.
