Real Madrid attacker a January target for Manchester United

Marco Asensio has reached a crucial phase of his career where he needs to decide his next move carefully. The Spaniard is in the final year of his contract and has yet to commit his future to Real Madrid. Meanwhile, he has been a bit-part player for Los Blancos this season, managing only 426 minutes of game time.

But the 26-year-old has still been prolific, chipping in with three goals and three assists in those outings. Meanwhile, the player’s contract situation has left Real Madrid sweating, with Los Blancos ready to hand him a new deal. At the same time, Asensio has popped up on the radar of Manchester United.

Manchester United bolstered the offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing Antony. But Erik ten Hag is keen on adding to his squad’s offensive unit after Cristiano Ronaldo’s infamous departure. Cody Gakpo had thus been the priority target for Manchester United before he joined Liverpool. The Red Devils are now scouring the market for an alternative to the Dutchman.

Meanwhile, the Premier League heavyweights are not in the best of financial conditions. So cut-price deals and loan moves might be their solutions in the January transfer window. Recent reports claimed that intermediaries offered Manchester United the chance to sign Asensio. And the Real Madrid attacker is a viable target for the English club.

Asensio will arrive on a cut-price deal if Manchester United can convince Real Madrid to sell him. But Los Blancos will unlikely be ready to cash in on the Spanish international despite his contract situation. The Merengues are not interested in signing a player in January and will thus not entertain an offer in all likelihood.

But it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils succeed in bringing the 26-year-old to Old Trafford. For now, Asensio has emerged as a January target for Manchester United amid uncertainties surrounding his Real Madrid future.
