Anne Hathaway made sure to ring in this New Year in style, attending a very swanky party with superstar songstress Madonna thrown by Valentino in Switzerland. No doubt to the delight of the guests, A-list duo Anne and Madonna were rumoured to have performed a duet together.
Moviestar Anne looked stunning in a floral tunic dress that she vamped up with scarlet lips and her new cropped do. Madonna, meanwhile, opted for a little black dress that featured lace sleeves, fish net stockings and old Hollywood curls. They posed for cameras during the event, pictured below with Valentino’s good friend Giancarlo Giammetti.
Earlier in the day, Anne had taken a stroll around the city of Gstaad arm-in-arm with Valentino. Fashion fans won’t be surprised by the closeness of the two – the pair have been fashion BFFs for several years now.
The world-renowned designer dressed the actress for the Oscars back in 2007, creating a floor-sweeping, ivory gown with black bow details. And he walked her down the Oscar red carpet in 2011 while she showed off his spectacular scarlet gown (pictured below).
He was also responsible for creating the dress that she wore to tie the knot with her love Adam Shulman. “She’s a very good friend of mine,” Valentino said while confirming the news. “She’s like my daughter.”
As soon as Anne announced her engagement, most predicted that she would commission the designer to take care of her dress for the special day – along with the pair’s Oscar collaborations, Anne is frequently swathed in Valentino creations on the red carpet, rarely opting to wear other designers. Most notably, she looked princess-perfect in one of his twinkling, stunning designs at the Met Ball 2010.

What’s more, she has a reserved front row seat at his Paris couture shows.Releasing a sketch of the wedding gown, the designer revealed: “Anne’s gown is a strapless ivory silk point d’esprit tulle dress, which included a beautiful pink hand-painted shaded train and embroidered with satin flowers.”The floor-length vintage veil, which complemented the short crop Anne has adopted for Les Miserables is “reminiscent of the Twenties, consists of a lace ribbon with a large flower adorned with small crystal beads.”Meanwhile, Valentino had a cameo in the film that shot her to stardown, The Devil Wears Prada. And, in 2009, Anne presented him with his gong when he was inducted in the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style in Beverley Hills (below).
