Fans have taken to social media to slam Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to sign a stunning deal with Al-Nassr, claiming that the forward’s career is now all but over.
The Portugal star signed a £175million-a-year-deal with the Saudi Arabian side after heavy speculation that the 37-year-old would leave European football, and had been recently seen showing off a flash new £250,000 Rolls Royce as he weighed up the move.
And fans have been quick to react to the news on Twitter, with many claiming that he ‘is now finished’ following his acrimonious departure from Manchester United.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract at Man United was terminated by mutual consent in December
This move came just days after Ronaldo’s bombshell interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV
Fans were generally in agreement on Twitter, with one writing: ‘Safe to say Ronaldo’s career is officially over.’
Another claimed: ‘Ronaldo is so done.’
A third wrote: ‘Breaking : Ronaldo is finished & jobless currently.’
Al-Nassr are one of the most successful clubs in Saudi, having won the Saudi league nine times
One Twitter user offered further thought on the state of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s career, saying:’Ronaldo to Saudi Arabia? It’s truly over.
‘He threw tantrums at United, refused to play, refused to be on the bench, refused to follow club protocol, left without permission, gave an interview to Piers Morgan, lost the World Cup without contributing anything and is now finished.’
A fifth asked: ‘Ronaldo has finally accepted he is finished but will his fans agree?’
Ronaldo said in his interview with Morgan that he has no respect for United boss Erik ten Hag
Another user piled on by adding: ‘Lmao Ronaldo is finished.’
A seventh stated: ‘Ronaldo truly finished now.’
And an eighth poked fun at the legendary forward’s choice of destination, writing: ‘Ronaldo going to one of the worst teams in the Saudi league lol,’ followed by a laughing emoji.
Ten Hag claimed Ronaldo never told him personally that he wanted to leave United
But one fan at least chose to remember the incredible moments that Ronaldo gave football fans while playing at the highest level in European football.
As well as five Ballon d’Or awards for being the best player in Europe over a calendar year, Ronaldo also won five Champions Leagues, numerous top scorer awards and league titles in three of the top five divisions on the continent.
They wrote: ‘ #Cristiano Ronaldo has moved to #AlNassr it is done. Thank you #CR7.’ with an emoji of a goat.
