Selena Gomez has a name for the transplanted kidney she received five years ago.
The 30-year-old actress revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that she called the donated organ ‘Fred.’
‘I named it after Fred Armisen because I love Portlandia,’ the Only Murders in the Building star explained. ‘I’ve never met him, but I’m secretly hoping he finds that out just because I want him to be like, “That’s weird.”’
The Ice Cream singer was diagnosed with Lupus, an auto-immune disease, in 2015.
According to Lupus.org, the condition affect the skin, joints and organs such as the kidney and liver.
Selena’s friend and fellow actor, Francia Raisa, 34, donated a kidney to her in 2017.
When she announced the gift of life on social media, Selena shared a picture of herself and Francia is adjoining hospital beds writing a heart-felt thank you.
‘There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,’ Selena wrote. ‘She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.’
The procedure wasn’t without side-effects for the How I Met Your Father actress.
In a July 2022 interview with Yahoo Life, Francia revealed that she’s had to change her diet, limiting protein intake to three-to-five ounces at a time, and drinking ‘at least two to three liters of water a day.’
‘I can feel the difference if I don’t.’ she admitted, ‘I get nauseous when I get dehydrated and it’s just not good. I feel clammy.’
