Some ring in the New Year with partying, some do it more quietly, and some post pictures of themselves wearing glittery strapless bikinis and band leader hats; Anne Hathaway is now firmly one of the latter. The Princess Diaries star showed the selfie to the world on New Year’s Eve to show how she was celebrating the beginning of 2023. You can see the image below.
In spite of the glare of what appears to be a sparkler obscuring the shot, the post has been liked over a million times; including by fellow celebrities like Alison Brie. One of the top comments is from British actor Nicholas Galitzine (Cinderella) who writes, “I have so many questions.” It’s understandable considering the actor spent a lot of time with Anne Hathaway recently.
There’s no firm release date yet, but sometime this year Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine will star together in the Amazon Prime original The Idea of You, based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Robinne Lee. Hathaway plays a divorced mother who stumbles into a passionate love affair with a pop star after bringing her daughter to a music festival. Galitzine plays Hayes Campbell, the young singer of the world-famous band August Moon.
Considering Anne Hathaway’s looks from the past year, it shouldn’t be too surprising that the star is showing off an interesting and revealing outfit on social media. Many publications like Vogue reported on what they called the star’s new “bombshell” look in 2022. Hathaway is working with a new celebrity stylist, Erin Walsh, and the fashion world is apparently very happy with the actress’ new looks.
While fans of Anne Hathaway’s screen work may likewise be enjoying her new looks, the thing they’re really thrilled about is news that she’s likely to be returning to one of her most beloved roles. It was recently confirmed that Disney is developing The Princess Diaries 3, with Hathaway expected to return to the role of Mia Thermopolis. Sadly, the most recent reports indicate Julie Andrews isn’t expected to reprise her role as Queen Clarisse Renaldi.

Critics haven’t been as thrilled as fans with Anne Hathaway’s last few projects. Her Apple TV+ mini-series WeCrashed, which also starred Jared Leto (Morbius), got fairly middling reviews, with critics saying that the series ultimately worked in spite of horrible pacing.
Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway’s most recent big-screen appearance — Armageddon Time — received surprisingly soft feedback from critics and audiences. James Gray’s semi-autobiographical film boasts an impressive cast including Jeremy Strong (Succession), Banks Repeta (The Devil All the Time), Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs), and Jessica Chastain (A Most Violent Year). While it would be too far to say the flick was critically panned, the reviews weren’t as impressive as a film with such a stacked cast would be expected to inspire.
