Report: Real Madrid submit bid to sign Tottenham target following two meetings in last 15 days

Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol has now been the subject of a significant bid from Real Madrid following two meetings in the last 15 days.

What’s the story?

Well, it was Corriere dello Sport who revealed that Spurs want to sign the Croatia international – the Italian news outlet claimed that Tottenham would ramp up their interest after the World Cup.

However, just six days into the January transfer window, and it is Real Madrid who have moved first.

Alfredo Pedulla believes the Spanish giants have held two meetings with RB Leipzig regarding Gvardiol in the last 15 days, and have now submitted a bid worth €120m (£106m) in total.

The deal is structured in two payments of €60m (£53m) in addition to bonuses, and Real Madrid have also offered the 20-year-old a contract worth €6m-a-year (£5.3m).

Pedulla adds that Gvardiol has more money on the table from Manchester City, but he would be willing to accept a lot less in order to join Real Madrid.

The RB Leipzig No.32 put his name up in lights at the World Cup in Qatar, delivering a number of phenomenal performances to announce himself to Europe’s elite sides.

So far this season at club level, Gvardiol has made 19 appearances in all competitions for RB Leipzig, scoring one goal – which coincidentally came against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Tottenham surely have no chance against Real Madrid

In our view, Gvardiol ended Tottenham’s chances of signing him with his incredible displays at the World Cup – his valuation has simply exceeded what Spurs can pay.

Putting financial details aside for a moment, the Croatian colossus – as aforesaid – has already made it clear he wants to join Real Madrid above any other side.

Therefore, Tottenham would have to somehow find a way to offer more than the £106m Real Madrid have bid, while also significantly outdoing them on personal terms as well – something Manchester City have already done, to no avail.

In our view, it is over for Tottenham in the race for Gvardiol – we would be incredibly surprised if he ended up in north London.
