Laws against the use of wild animals in circuses have been passed in numerous countries. However, it seems that many circuses are driven by greed and continue to enslave these animals. The mountain lion Mufasa has experienced everything during the past 20 years.
Mufasa was saved from a forcibly operating circus in Pᴇʀᴜ. For the past 20 years, he has been dragged from village to hamlet and made to perform. The unhappy animal had never experienced freedom before Animal Defenders International (ADI) arrived to free him. ADI is conducting Operation Spirit of Freedom, a year-long offensive against illegal circuses. Thanks to their steadfast loyalty, Mufasa was eventually set free after an eight-hour standoff with his owner.
When Mufasa was rescued, he was in bad condition. He was held captive on the back of a vehicle in addition to the other apparatus. Jan Creamer, president of Animal Defenders International (ADI) said that it was heartbreaking to see Mufasa chained among the circus equipment and residing atop a pickup truck. He was restrained by a heavy leash and shackles, and once they tore them off, he finally expanded while free.
He was in excellent health, but was prohiBɪᴛᴇd from being returned to the wild. The rescuers decided to move him to Taricaya Ecological Reserve as a result. He will reside there in a special enclosure in the Amazon rainforest. Mufasa may finally spend the remainder of his days in a way that is as ᴄʟᴏsᴇ to his natural state as is possible.
Mufasa was not the first or the last animal to be rescued. ADI intends to continue its efforts to free illegal circus animals and put them back in their proper habitat.
