When a mother jaguar caught an anaconda for dinner, her baby got into a conflict with mom over the yummy treat. The mother and her cub were witnessed engaged in a tug-of-war on a riverbank in Porto Jofre in Southwest Bʀᴀᴢɪʟ’s Pantanal wetlands.
According to the photographer who captured the ғɪɢʜᴛ, the five-month-old cub suddenly challenged the mother jaguar on the shore after the adult had caught the anaconda and needed assistance from her baby to transport it over the river.
After spending a few hours searching for jaguars ᴄʟᴏsᴇ to Porto Jofre, Dutch photographer Arjan Jongeneel recalled that they came across a female jaguar and her five-month-old pup. They spent some time following those captivating cats as they strolled along the river’s edge in search of prey.
Shortly after the mother and cub vanished into the woods, there was a lot of commotion coming from the dry leaves on the ground. They waited patiently, and after a little while, mum emerged on the brink of the river, sliding into the water from the 2 meter high shoreline. The cub followed and went into the river as well.
Both jaguars crossed the river. They observed that the mother was holding soᴍᴇᴛʜing in her jaws as they crossed the street. When they focused their attention, they could see that it was a sizable, five-meter-long yellow anaconda (16ft). The cub swam over to her mother and snatched the anaconda in her mouth.
According to Mr. Jongeneel, the anaconda was still attached to both of the jaguars when they reached the shore on the opposite side of the river. When the conflict began, both mother and cub were clinging to the yellow anaconda and refusing to yield. After some time when the mother let go, the cub quickly and triumphantly vanished with its prey.
