The bravery of a mother cheetah in Kᴇɴʏᴀ was captured on camera after the animal ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋed a large lion that was attempting to ᴋɪʟʟ her kids. The dramatic events are documented by a local guide as the mother cheetah puts her own safety at ʀɪsᴋ to protect her young.
At the Maasai Mara National Reserve, a 330-pound lion, which is more than three times heavier than a cheetah, was on the prowl. According to the pictures, it appears that the ʜᴜɴᴛer was successful in his first attempt to remove the mother cheetah from her cubs.
However, the mother cheetah didn’t take long to take action. The mother was ғᴇᴀʀless and stood her ground to ensure that her cubs were protected despite the ʜᴜɴᴛer’s size and strength.
She ultimately turned into the prey, driving the lion away from the area. Kisemei Saruni, 35, who was in the reserve at the time, recorded the action from a distance of 130 meters.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Saruni said: “A male lion emerged from a thicket not far from us when I was on a routine drive tour. We were seeing a leopard and her cubs. The lion came across the cheetah and the cubs while leisurely walking around his territory. The mother cheetah initially gave up and fled as the lion approached the cubs, but she later changed her mind and chased the lion away.”
The world’s fastest mammal, the cheetah, can accelerate more quickly than high-end sports cars. A chase involving a cheetah typically lasts less than a minute due to its speed and capacity to travel 300 meters.
