Audrie Spake’s father João has been bedridden for some months due to a number of health problems. While his physicians have been doing everything they can to help his body heal, João just received a visitor to help mend his heart as well. The name of the visitor is Paçoca.
Paçoca is a therapy horse that collaborates with volunteers from Coletivo Incluso, a nonprofit with the aim of assisting those with special needs. It has created differences and has helped a lot of patients get better.
This week, Spake shared an emotional video that showed Paçoca visiting her father. Paçoca quietly sat against João’s chest in a modest interchange of comfort and love, it seemed to be the kind of relationship João needed the most. Spake said that the horse had been like that with her father the whole time.
It’s obvious that João won’t soon forget his visit. And perhaps it will do more than just serve as a remembrance. The theʀᴀᴘᴇutic effects of therapy animals on patients’ health and wellbeing are now being recognized by an increasing number of medical professions.
People with a variety of health issues can experience a considerable reduction in pain, anxiety, sadness, and weariness when receiving animal-assisted therapy. Moreover, it benefits everyone, not just those with health difficulties. Those who observe animal visits with family and friends report feeling better as well.
