Arsenal ended Man Utd’s 10-game unbeaten run and Erik ten Hag has assessed the game with the players.
United made mistakes defensively
Erik ten Hag doubled down on his criticism of Manchester United’s defending for Arsenal’s goals in their 3-2 defeat.
Ten Hag was highly critical of the manner that United allowed Eddie Nketiah to score twice and Bukayo Saka to fire Arsenal ahead in the immediate aftermath of the contest at the Emirates Stadium.
United have two cup games against Nottingham Forest and Reading this week to reset after dropping five points at Arsenal and Crystal Palace last week.
“We left it behind and we said the right conclusions then we have to move forward and quickly because tomorrow is a big game and focus on that,” Ten Hag stressed when asked about the reaction to the Arsenal loss.
“I think a lot of games we did very well (defensively), we had a lot of clean sheets. Against Manchester City we defended very well. In general, against Arsenal we defended very well.
“I don’t think they get clean shots, there was one time from a free-kick. The rest were shots from cutbacks, shots from distance, defenders from us in between the ball and the goal.
“And that’s what I meant that all of the goals were avoidable and it can’t happen, that was my point, it cannot happen. When you concede three goals in a top game it is really difficult to win the game and that’s what happened.
“It’s one of the conclusions so it can’t happen and we set that conclusion, we talked about, we showed them, we have to learn and take this lesson.”
